Call for True Stories about Experiences that Have Changed Your World

The people, places and events of our lives shape us less than the stories we make of our experiences. Queen of Wands press is compiling a new anthology that offers stories of transformation to learn and live by.

Shiny Blue You: Stories to Change our World is an anthology of true stories of grace, courage and transformation that introduce new possibilities for how we interpret our lives and inhabit our world. These true, original stories will be written by people from all walks of life and will provide unique personal insights into how stories we tell can influence the way we live.

Shiny Blue You will weave powerful life lessons into vividly told true tales that offer surprising truths, lessons and discoveries. Stories will convey small or seismic shifts with honesty, transparency and vulnerability so that the reader feels intimately included in the narrative.

Please carefully review all of the Writer's Guidelines (below) prior to writing your story.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: MAY 15, 2008

WRITER’S GUIDELINES

  • Story Length: 850-1100 words
  • Style: Creative nonfiction, written as a story
  • Tone: Stories must be true, uplifting and poignant
  • Authors may submit multiple stories at any time up to the submission deadline. Early submissions are encouraged!
  • We generally do not publish reprints or revisions of material that has been—or will be—published in a magazine, a book, or the Internet (with the exception of books comprised solely of the author's original works and writing published on an author’s blog).
  • Manuscripts will not be returned.
  • Due to the large volume of submissions received, we cannot report on the status of individual submissions. The list of contributors will be posted on this website upon the book's publication.
  • We purchase all book rights to the story as we print it, with the exception of an anthology or work consisting of solely of the author’s own work.
  • All contributors will receive one copy of Shiny Blue You, will be featured prominently on this web site and will be invited to participate in the Shiny Blue You Community.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR STORY

  • Please email submissions to info@shinyblueyou.com, with the story attached as a separate Word document.
  • The email subject line should read “Shiny Blue You Submission”
  • Send only one story per e-mail.
  • Each submission must include all contact information (Name, phone number, mailing address, email, blog and/or website) single-spaced in the top left corner of the first page. (Files that do not meet this requirement may be discarded).
  • Files should be named as follows: Last Name_First Name_Title.
  • No headers or footers.
  • Use 12 pt. Times New Roman font.
  • Lines should be single-spaced with one space between paragraphs.
  • Make paragraphs flush left; NO indentations.
  • Only use ONE space after a period.
  • At the bottom of your document, please provide a three-sentence bio that includes selected writing credits. Link it to the story if relevant, and be sure to provide your web site or blog URL.
